Set up emergency contacts on your phone

Your phone can call emergency services and alert every one of your emergency contacts at the same time — with your location. Set it up now, before you need it. Menu names differ slightly by software version; confirm on your own device.

iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open Health app → tap your photo → Medical ID → Edit.
  2. Add emergency contacts, allergies, blood type, then turn on Show When Locked and Share During Emergency Call.
  3. Go to Settings → Emergency SOS and turn on Call with Hold and Release plus Call with 5 Button Presses.
  4. Turn on Emergency Contacts After Call so your contacts get your location automatically once the call ends.
  5. To trigger: press and hold the side button with a volume button, or press the side button five times.

Android (all brands, base system)

  1. Open Settings → Safety & emergency (some phones: Settings → Safety and emergency).
  2. Tap Medical information and fill in your details, then Emergency contacts and add your people.
  3. Turn on Emergency SOS, then enable Call emergency services and Share info with contacts.
  4. Enable Emergency Location Service (ELS) so your location is sent to responders automatically.
  5. To trigger: press the power button five times quickly.

Samsung (One UI)

  1. Settings → Safety and emergency → Emergency SOS.
  2. Turn it on and choose Press Side key 5 times.
  3. Enable Share information with contacts, Auto call and Send messages with pictures and audio recording.
  4. Add contacts under Emergency contacts — all of them are messaged at once when SOS fires.

OnePlus (OxygenOS)

  1. Settings → Safety & emergency → Emergency SOS.
  2. Enable the 5-press power button shortcut and add your emergency contacts.
  3. Turn on Share location with emergency contacts and Auto call emergency number.

Nothing Phone (Nothing OS)

  1. Settings → Safety & emergency → Emergency SOS.
  2. Turn on Use Emergency SOS and set the emergency number.
  3. Add contacts under Emergency contacts and enable Emergency sharing so location goes out automatically.

Google Pixel

  1. Open the Personal Safety app → Settings.
  2. Set your emergency contacts, medical info and turn on Emergency Sharing.
  3. Enable Car crash detection and Safety Check for scheduled check-ins.
  4. To trigger: press the power button five times.

Any phone — alert everyone at once

  1. Create a group in WhatsApp or your messaging app named ICE (In Case of Emergency) with all your emergency contacts.
  2. Pin it so it is one tap away, and share Live Location to that group when you need help.
  3. Emergency SOS on both iOS and Android already messages every listed emergency contact simultaneously — add all of them there, not just one.
